Maddux Turns ONE!

I’m a slacker… it’s been almost 2 weeks since Maddux turned the big ‘1’ and I’m just now barely getting around to writing a birthday post. Man, this year sure did fly by! I won’t bore you all with a long, sappy overview of the past year (like the first time Maddux busted out in a full on giggle-fest or the time we fed him his first butternut squash puree… oh and how about his first time in the pool??). Instead, here are a few of his favorites…

TV Show/Cartoon: Mickey Mouse Club House (“Oh TOOOOOOODLES!”)

Song: “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” (sung acapella by mommy) 😉

Toy: Water bottle filled with colorful rocks (handmade by Grammie and Grandpa Jackson)

Activities: Swimming, Cheering on the LA Kings, Dodgers and the Indianapolis Colts!

Food: this kid hasn’t met a fruit or vegetable he doesn’t like! Steak and potatoes— LOVES THEM!

Ever since Maddux was a teeny, tiny bean growing inside of my belly, we read to him. We read to him through the plexiglass of the incubator in the NICU and we read to him before bedtime. We read a lot of Dr. Seuss that it wouldn’t surprise me if one day soon he says to me:

“You’re off to great places.

Today is your day.

Your mountain is waiting.

So get on your way!”

It was a no-brainer when it came time to start planning the big birthday bash, that it would be all of the wonderful whimsy of Seuss! Thankfully, I had the most amazing help from my talented family and friends! And of course no party is ever complete without the laughter and love of our good friends and family filling up the atmosphere !

Maybe one day I’ll be as detailed as my idol ‘The Pioneer Woman’ and eventually give you a step-by-step tutorial on how my girlfriends and I made the Truffula Trees and the Cat in the Hat flower vases, the book page pennant banners, themed aprons and Maddux’s bib that were handmade by my crafty mama, the colorful high chair banner or the deliciously homemade cupcakes and incredible dessert table that my niece Kayla and good friend Zee poured their hearts into. Just about every detail for the party was a DIY creation and you can find all of the inspiration for Maddux’s Dr. Seuss-themed 1st birthday party here:

It was a crazy, beautiful and incredibly quick first year! I can’t wait to see what year ‘2’ has in store for you, Maddie-bear!
